Models & Specifications

Horizontal flow wrap machine specifications

Choose by how your product travels. The upper-film HFFS-350 runs the film over the product and seals underneath; lugs push firm, regular pieces such as biscuits, bread, chocolate, instant noodles and boxed goods. The lower-film HFFS-450 runs the film under the product and seals on top; the product rides on the film, which suits soft, irregular or loose items such as fresh produce, trays, tortillas and multipacks.

Product Fit

Products it wraps

Start with the product as it reaches the wrapper. Shape, height, surface condition and spacing help determine the infeed and forming setup. Choose a profile below to see what needs checking.

Product spacing and handling for fragile pieces

Key checks

  • Piece length × width × height
  • Chipping or breakage
  • Crumbs near the seals
  • Target packs/min

Cookies can chip during transfer or when their spacing changes. Show how they arrive at the wrapper, including any tray or stacking step. A representative sample helps check handling and the clearance needed for a clean end seal. The image illustrates the product type.

Pack Format

Pillow packs it makes

Flow wrapping forms a pillow pack around the product using rollstock film, with a longitudinal seal and two end seals. Joined packs or a hanging hole can be considered when the pack design calls for them.

All 3 pack formats — select one to see what it is used for.

Typical applications

A pillow pack with a longitudinal seal and two end seals, commonly considered for individual bars, cookies and similar solid pieces.

Compatibility check

Confirm finished length and width, product height, film roll width, registration mark, seal layer and headspace.

Real sample confirmation

Start with a photo or sketch of the pack you want. If film is already selected, add the supplier label or data sheet. Film structure, thickness, roll size, winding direction and print registration can follow during engineering review. The image is a pillow-pack format reference; the extra features are described in the text.

Frequently Asked Questions

Horizontal Flow Wrap Machine FAQs

Upper or lower film, speed, pack sizes, CE, lead time, payment and support.

Do I need an upper-film or a lower-film flow wrapper?

It depends on how the product travels through the machine. On the upper-film HFFS-350 the film comes from above, the seal is underneath and lugs push the product, so it suits firm, regular pieces such as biscuits, bread, chocolate bars, instant noodles, boxed goods and trays. On the lower-film HFFS-450 the film comes from below, the seal is on top and the product rides on the film instead of being pushed, so it suits soft, irregular or loose items such as fresh vegetables and fruit, trayed meat or frozen food, tortillas, sticky bars and multipacks. If you are unsure, send a sample and we test it on the right model.

What is a horizontal flow wrapping machine?

A horizontal flow wrapping machine, also called a flow wrapper or flow pack machine, wraps a solid product moving on a horizontal infeed in roll film, seals the film along the pack and at both ends, and cuts off a finished pillow pack. Spack offers an upper-film and a lower-film version, both running 25–200 packs/min.

What products can a horizontal flow wrapper handle?

Solid pieces that can travel on an infeed. The upper-film HFFS-350 suits firm, regular products such as biscuits, rice crackers, egg-yolk pies, chocolate, bread, instant noodles, mooncakes, medicines, daily goods, industrial parts, cartons and trays. The lower-film HFFS-450 suits soft, irregular or loose products such as fresh vegetables and fruit, trayed meat or frozen food, tortillas, sticky bars and multipacks. Packs range from 30–170 mm wide and 50–1000 mm long depending on the model. See the product examples.

How fast is a horizontal flow wrap machine?

Both the upper-film HFFS-350 and the lower-film HFFS-450 run 25–200 packs/min. Your rate depends mainly on pack length, product spacing and how the product is fed, so the free sample test shows the speed for your own product before you order.

What pack sizes can the two models make?

The upper-film HFFS-350 makes packs 50–170 mm wide and 50–1000 mm long; the lower-film HFFS-450 makes packs 30–150 mm wide and 50–500 mm long. Both take film up to 400 mm wide. If you run several products, size the machine for the largest one; see the model comparison.

How is flow wrapping different from VFFS or a premade-pouch machine?

A horizontal flow wrapper carries a solid piece along a conveyor and wraps roll film around it: one fin seal along the pack and two end seals. A VFFS machine forms a vertical tube from film and doses powder, granules or liquid into it. A premade-pouch machine opens, fills and seals a bag that was made before it reached the line.

Can a flow wrapper pack powder or liquid, or make doypacks and sachets?

No. Powder, granules, juice and other products dosed from a hopper need a VFFS machine with the matching filler. Doypacks, gusset and zipper pouches run on a premade-pouch machine, and stick packs and 3- or 4-side-seal sachets are made on VFFS. The flow wrapper makes pillow packs, and chain-style packs on request.

How do I reduce damage when wrapping cookies or soft products?

Review the transfer points, product spacing, support and clearance through the forming and end-seal areas. Fragile edges, crumbs, sticky surfaces and temperature all matter. Use representative product in the test and inspect both the product and seals afterward. Show how products arrive at the wrapper when you send the line details.

Is the flow wrap machine CE marked?

Yes. HFFS-350 and HFFS-450 are CE-marked under Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC (EN ISO 12100, EN 60204-1, EN 415-1). The technical file was reviewed by UDEM, certificate M.2024.206.C100050, valid to 2029-04-25. Ask us for the certificate and declaration of conformity.

What are the lead time and payment terms?

Lead time is 14–40 days from the day we receive your deposit. Payment is 30% deposit to start production and 70% balance before shipment. Before you pay the balance we send full test videos and photos, and you can arrange a FAT or third-party inspection.

Can you test my product before I order?

Yes, sample testing is free. Send your product, and film if you have it; we test them free of charge and send a test video within 3 working days of receiving the samples. You pay the sample freight, and we refund it when you place the order.

What should I confirm when importing a flow wrapper?

Spack Machine builds the HFFS-350 and HFFS-450 in Shantou, Guangdong, China. Before ordering, confirm your site voltage, phase and frequency; tell us if the room is humid, since film grip and seals are affected; agree which product, film and pack the machine must run at the factory acceptance test; and list the wear parts and change parts for each pack length. Ask us for the CE certificate and declaration of conformity, and check which food-contact declarations your film supplier provides.

What should a flow-wrapper quotation include?

Separate the wrapper, product feeder, forming parts, coding and any inspection or downstream equipment. For multiple product sizes, ask which guides or forming parts change and what the changeover involves. Installation, training and site interfaces should also be clear. The first-machine buying guide can help you prepare a supplier comparison.

What information do you need for a quote?

A product photo, approximate length × width × height, a pack photo or sketch and your target output are enough to start. Add how the products arrive: by hand, in batches or from an upstream line. Use the inquiry form to share what you have.

How is a horizontal flow wrap machine supported after it ships — and what is the warranty?

Warranty covers 12 months from the date of machine receipt. During that period, defects or malfunctions are covered by technical support and complimentary spare parts for replacement; freight on those parts is borne by the buyer. From dispatch onward, support is available by phone or FaceTime. When an onsite visit is required, a technician is arranged; the service fee, round-trip airfare and accommodation are the buyer's responsibility. See Service & Support.
