A gusset bag is a pouch with extra folds (sides, bottom, or M-fold) so it holds more and can stand. Premade path

Magazine, then the hard station: open

A gusset bag packaging machine on this site does not form the bag. It loads premade pouches, opens them — that is the station that fails on M-gussets — then fills and seals.

Stage 1

Load the magazine

Premade pouches sit in a magazine or on a rotary infeed. You buy pouches, not a film roll. Magazine geometry still has to match the pouch.

Open the gusset

This is the hard station. Horizontal suction cups can pull M-gusset faces fully open. Rotary grips both sides and may not expand some M-gussets as fully. Confirm with the real pouch.

Dose the product

The filler is selected separately from the host. Powder, granule and liquid do not share one assumed doser. A product name is not a compatibility list.

Seal and discharge

The top seal closes the pouch. Zipper, if present, is a pouch feature — a zipper opener on the host is optional, not a standard BOM.

Host fork

Rotary or horizontal for gusset pouches

The M-gusset fork is the reason this page exists beside the two machine URLs. Width change is the other fork. Neither is a price list.

Open an M-gusset

Horizontal suction cups pull the pouch faces fully open. Rotary grips both sides, so some M-shaped gussets do not expand as completely. Send the pouch before anyone promises a host.

Change pouch width

Rotary: enter the width; gripper arms reposition automatically. Horizontal: width change is manual and comparatively involved. Several gusset widths in one shift usually point rotary — unless opening says otherwise.

Not a published VFFS family

Can VFFS make gusset bags here?

Gusset devices on vertical form-fill-seal exist in the industry. They are not among the five bag families published on Spack’s VFFS page. This hub does not promise that tooling.

Published VFFS bag families on this site are pillow, 3-side sachet, 4-side sachet, shaped sachet and stick. Gusset, doypack, flat-bottom and triangle-snack are not on that list.

If you already run rollstock and have a gusset drawing, send it. Do not read the vertical form-fill-seal machine page as a gusseted bagging machine catalogue.

Mis-route. A pillow pack without a gusset belongs on the pillow hub. Flow-pack gusset is not this page.

Seven inputs settle most gusset enquiries. Send what you already have; gaps are normal on a first project.

Before you order

What to confirm when you import the machine

These machines are built in Shantou, Guangdong, China. Most first-time problems are not mechanical — they are things that were never confirmed in writing before the order. US buyers are the first audience; UK and Australian plants ask the same utility and clearance questions.

Power and utilities at your site

Confirm supply voltage, phase and frequency against the configuration, along with compressed air. Do not infer a US 480 V / 60 Hz or a UK 415 V / 50 Hz supply from a website.

Ambient humidity

Powders cake, films slip and seals weaken when the plant runs humid. If that is your room, raise it early — it affects sustained output more than peak rate.

Documentation for your market

Decide which certificates and food-contact declarations you need on arrival, and who issues them — the machine builder or the pouch supplier. This page does not claim a destination-market approval.

Shipping, duty and clearance

Crated dimensions and weight drive freight; the HS classification drives duty. The customs clearance walkthrough lists what a US, UK or Australian broker will ask for.

Acceptance before dispatch

Agree what the machine has to demonstrate before it ships — which product, which gusset pouch, what open-and-seal result — and that it runs your sample, not a generic one.

Spares, tooling and format change

List wear parts and the change parts for each pouch width you plan to run. Warranty on the premade hosts is 12 months from receipt; freight on replacement parts during that period is the buyer’s.

Not a commitment. Nothing on this page states lead time, installation scope or after-sales terms. Those are confirmed per project in writing. What is a gusset bag packaging machine?

A gusset bag packaging machine, in buyer language, is a fill-and-seal host for a pouch that has extra folds — side gusset, bottom gusset, or M-fold.

On this site that is usually a premade rotary or horizontal host, not a unique gusset SKU. Searches for gusseted bagging equipment, gusseted bagging machine, gusseted pouch packing machine and gusset bag packing machine all belong on this format hub, then on those two hosts.

Is a gusset bag the same as a doypack?

No. A doypack is a stand-up pouch with a bottom gusset. A gusset is the fold itself and can sit on the sides, the bottom, or as an M-fold.

A simple side-gusset that opens cleanly can be discussed on either host after a pouch sample. Several widths in one shift usually point rotary unless opening says otherwise.

Can VFFS make gusset bags here?

Not as a published Spack VFFS family. The live VFFS page lists pillow, 3-side, 4-side, shaped sachet and stick — not gusset tooling.

Industry VFFS gusset devices exist. Send a drawing if that is your project. Do not treat vertical form-fill-seal as a gusset catalogue on this site.

Is this a bag-making machine or a gusseting machine?

No. This hub is fill-and-seal for pouches that already exist. A gusseting machine or side gusseted bag making machine converts film into bags.

If you need converting, say so in the enquiry. Do not force a bag-maker RFQ onto a premade host.

What speed can I expect from a gusset bag packaging machine?

How much does a gusset bag packaging machine cost?

Horizontal is generally priced slightly below rotary; that is qualitative, not a dollar band. Fix the drawing and pouches per shift, then ask for a comparable quotation.

Horizontal published width screens are 160 / 210 / 260 mm (6.30 / 8.27 / 10.24 in). Rotary published width screens are 200 / 250 / 300 mm (7.87 / 9.84 / 11.81 in). Those are screening maxima, not a quoted envelope for your laminate.

Is a gusset bottom pouch the same as a flat-bottom pouch?

Not always. A bottom gusset that makes a stand-up doypack is not the same drawing as a box / block / quad base.
